The Hôtel de Banville is linked to the creation of Place Royale (now Place de la République) in 1637.
The staircase has stood the test of time.
In the mid-18th century, the hotel was beautifully rebuilt in the classical style, with large salons and panelling.
It became the property of the French Ministry of Culture in the late 1970s.
